Small white buds along the Bronx River pathway led me to identify these lovely little blooms as Hawthorn flowers. In this painting, they are larger than life by tenfold. There is much symbolism to the Hawthorne flower used throughout the centuries in paintings. Something I would love to see become a common practice once again. There is something so breath taking about a field of blooming cotton. The purest white fluffy blooms standing strong with resiliency in the oppressive heat of the south.
